Christmas Eve is coming!

By Stan Cardwell in Community United Methodist Church 10 months ago | 1604 views Link:

Hello all,

We’re putting finishing touches on all our Christmas Eve services.  Lynn’s working on special music. Tom’s working on ushers.  There are counters and Advent Candle lighters.  Two serving opportunities which are still open are Scripture readers and candle lighters.  The tasks are listed below if you can and are willing to help.  Sign up for one slot, but depending on the numbers, we may ask you to read more.

Note – we’ll be reading Scripture from the New Living Translation.  If you sign up to read, please follow this link to read through and get familiar with your passage.  These readings will be on the pulpit as well.

wow – thank you all for filling all the readings!  please be sure to review the text.  the link to the NLT version is listed in the opening – just type in your passage.

each passage is followed by a verse from O Little Town of Bethlehem.  When the bulletin is ready for printing, I’ll post a copy here.

fyi – the order above is not the order in the service.

1. Malachi
2. Luke
3. Matthew
4. John

John Holly

I will read the Scripture at 7pm service. Mary Beth and our daughter and I will light the candles if this is still open. The latter is my preference.

Hi John the only opening is the candlelighting. Would you share you daughter’s name

thank you !

Candle lighting instructions.

there are two moments f candle lighting – lighting the advent candles at the beginning of the service and lighting the Christ candle in the middle

the Advent candles are lit from the altar candles, the Christ candle is lit from the Advent candles.

There is a short passage to read with the lighting of the Advent candles. Welcome attenders, introduce family then read Isaiah 9:2,6-7, then light the four advent candles, then invite persons to sing “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.”

The Christ candle will be lit in silence. later in the service after the third Gospel lesson.
